I’ve been thinking about light a lot lately and have been starting to put together a playlist of songs to capture the creative thoughts I’m having. This version of Shine by Years & Years, covered by Ward Thomas fits right in. The harmonies are perfect for a Sunday. The picture is a corner of a painting from the Golden Age exhibition at the SMK in Copenhagen that really captured me.
This song opened the Art Is Everywhere show this weekend and is 8 minutes of retro loveliness. It’s exceptional on headphones. You can see my piece of art inspired by it below the video.
"The silence and the waiting and the rush of all aboard
Fifty souls to a carriage I’m trying hard to be ignored
Then my telephone shakes into life and I see your name
And the wheat fields explode into gold either side of the train..."
A perfect discovery for the first Sunday in September...
"I am here. Waiting. It's happening
The moment that you want is coming
If you give it time..."
This song, it just makes you stop. So beautiful and so perfect for a Sunday.
Love is so hard to find... And even harder to define.
I've seen Johnny Marr played a couple of times, both amazing, unforgettable nights. Watching him makes you realise that music runs through his veins. I like how the tone of this new song is so Smithsy but also laid back and comfortable in its own skin.
Another 6 Music discovery. Lovely, light, summer tune.
"Don't let it get you down, you're the best thing I've seen
We never found the answer but we knew one thing
We all have a hunger."
I've had this song on a loop for days, when I run, when I draw... It's going to be amazing live. And the light in the video is just beautiful.
This song makes me want to hide out in a jazz bar in downtown New York with the band playing this on a loop until dawn. Such a lovely Sunday treat.
"Will you search through the lonely earth for me
Climb through the briar and bramble
I'll be your treasure..."
This beautiful song by Johnny Flynn is the theme to the UK television show Detectorists. A gentle, absorbing treat.
