This is such a sweet film. Comforting, a little bit indy and a little bit mainstream. All this and Mark Ruffalo too : ) I like it a lot. Good for a Monday evening lazing on the sofa.
I love podcasts. I listen to them all the time while I'm travelling around and while I draw. I discovered the Soundtracking series today while looking for podcasts about La La Land. This interview with the composer of the soundtrack is just wonderful. Really absorbing and the music is woven throughout the conversation. It sounds strange but to me it's amazing to think that the soundtrack had to be created, it sounds like it's always existed.
I love quirky French films and discovered this little gem on Netflix this week. It's a sweet simple story but has chocolate, romance and subtitles : ) A perfect Monday sweet treat.

I haven't watched this movie for such a long time but I think I must have watched about 25 times when it was first out. So subtle and absorbing, heartfelt and funny. And once you've watched it, watch it again with the actors commentary. It's hilarious : ) A perfect Monday movie.
Going to the movies is usually a weekend treat or something to do in the evening. There is something that feels so utterly indulgent about going in the middle of the day. It's a bit like skiving off school.
Today, I skived. I went to see the utterly magical La La Land with a lovely friend of mine. It was everything I wanted a film to be. Completely unashamedly romantic which seems rare these days. Nostalgic, amusing, beautiful to look at and emotional. And such a lovely soundtrack. One for lovers of Singing In The Rain, Moulin Rouge, Funny Face and Roman Holiday. And all the better for the fact I saw it at midday when I should have been working. Such a treat.
Part of living a quiet life to me is that absolute cosiness that I feel from watching a familiar film. This film is cheese on toast! And I love it : ) Music & Lyrics stars Hugh Grant as his absolute silliest and a very endearing Drew Barrymore. It's cute and it's totally teenage. Perfect for a Monday movie.
I always feel drawn to watch Woody Allen films as they come out at the cinema. There's something so comfortable and familiar about his scripts. His writing is a study in itself and the humour and awkwardness that he portrays is so watchable. I've watched Annie Hall several times. I really wanted to be Diane Keaton. I liked her honesty and quirkiness and related to her vulnerability and insecurity. The film is quite melancholic in places and the humour kind of sneaks up on you. But it's rather perfect for a rainy Monday night.
A gentle one for this week's Monday movie. An absolutely beautiful gem from Studio Ghibli. A bit of an antidote to the busy days : )

This film isn't Christmassy at all but it's so warm and bright and alive. The food, the music, the actors. You can really tell it's a passion project and a labour of love for Jon Favreau. It will make you want to take to the road and eat nothing but grilled cheese. A perfect Monday movie.
