I'm so excited today to be announcing the title and revealing the cover of my brand new picture book An Amazing Alphabet of Cake! The book will be available to buy on Amazon in a couple of weeks time and if you'd like to be one of the first to get your copy make sure you sign up to the newsletter on my home page.
This book has been a real labour of love for me for several reasons. It's my second independently published picture book and the first one that I have illustrated myself after many years of thinking that I couldn't draw.
It's also inspired by a game that I have played for many years. When I was little, we had a lot of long car journeys with my Dad and he always occupied us by playing The Alphabet Game. We would takes turns naming fruit or bands or capital cities starting with the letters from A to Z. I remember those times very fondly so I continued to play the game with the little ones in my life.
Somehow rather than fruit or bands, we gravitated to cake and renamed it The Cake Game. We have spent many happy and special times making our way from A to Z, dreaming up delicious and elaborate cakes that we would love to make and more importantly eat!
Inspired by these moments, An Amazing Alphabet of Cake started as pencil sketches of a collection of ideas we had come up with together. And these sketches then became 26 separate illustrations that started to take shape as a book. And today I get to introduce the book to you, over a year since I started sketching. It's a collection of over 44 different characters! Lions, tigers, cats, wizards, a mini dachshund, boys, girls, a flamingo, badgers, a bear, a fox, even Father Christmas... And so many more! All eating and enjoying lots and lots of cake.
I can't wait for you and your little ones to see the book! We've got a little more sprucing to do so in the meantime, here are a couple of sneak peeks inside! I'll be sharing lots of insights into how I created the book and how I am independently publishing it. If you want to hear more please sign up to my newsletter.
